Dune vs. Dune
Presented by Avram Dodson
Dune is often referred to as a space opera, but only one filmed version can truly be considered operatic. Host Avram Dodson will conduct a shot-by-shot gom jabbar of scenes shared by the Lynch and Villeneuve versions, demonstrating how the same source material can produce either glossy slop or a glorious, surreal fever dream—and why Lynch’s “bad” Dune is the superior, spicier Arrakis. Pro-Villeneuvian radicals will be warmly tolerated in a post-talk discussion.
Avram Dodson received his MFA in film directing from Columbia University and has created numerous award-winning scripts and short works, including the “Showtime” bumper at the Independent Picture House. He is a Dune (1984) superfan and considers Dune (2021) a personal attack.
